SERVICES

Providing virtual or in-person support to students and families to ensure they reach the summit in their learning

As a learning specialist, I support students in overcoming learning challenges while helping them identify and capitalize on their strengths.  I believe in a structured, systemic, approach to instruction that incorporates multisensory activities to ensure engagement and retention of skills. I am certified in Orton-Gillingham (K-12) and have been trained in the Hochman Writing Method, SRSD, Wilson Fundations, PAF, Singapore Math, and other educational methods.

TESTIMONIALS FROM MY CLIENTS

Hilary worked 1:1 with my son during his 2nd grade year.  She used the OG approach to help him solidify his reading skills and develop his handwriting.  He now reads at grade level and his stamina has improved significantly when he reads and writes.  She was able to engage him and teach him spelling rules and strategies that he continues to use in 3rd grade.

ABOUT ME

I'm Hilary, a passionate educator since 2005. I've taught in a range of environments - from public schools and private special education schools to independent tutoring. My expertise is working with students with language-based learning differences, as well as dyslexia, executive functioning, auditory processing, dysregulation, and emotional disorders.  As a learning specialist, I strive to help students capitalize on their strengths and overcome their challenges to learn in the most effective, successful way.

Upon graduating from Fordham University with a Master's in General and Special Education, I worked in various schools in NYC as an educator, administrator, and learning specialist.  As a private tutor and consultant, I continue to work with students, families, and school to develop and implement learning plans for students with a range of learning needs.  I contribute to IEP meetings and consult with neuropsychologists and other educational professionals to understand student strengths and challenges and create programs to help them reach their full potential - their summit.  I have a vast knowledge of curriculum, intervention techniques, and assessment methods. I understand the importance of student placement and the need for collaboration between all constituents that make up a child's learning team.

As an Orton-Gillingham Certified Learning Specialist, I support students with dyslexia through an explicit, multisensory approach that provides them with meaningful knowledge about phonology and morphology.  When students understand these aspects of language, they are better equipped to overcome reading and writing challenges.  I also supervise teachers who are working towards an OG Certification.  As a practicum supervisor with IMSE, I strive to work collaboratively so that the teachers I work with can best support their students, and I, in turn, can continue to learn and grow as an educator.

In addition to helping students reach their learning summit (which undoubtedly influences all aspects of their lives), I am an avid reader, hiker, skier, and mom of two amazing middle school children (Noli and Sebastian). My husband, children, and I currently live in Crested Butte, CO, and I'm excited to bring my expertise and joy of teaching to students in my new community, as well as those students needing to engage remotely.
