About Me

I'm Hilary, a passionate educator since 2005. I've taught in a range of environments - from public schools and private special education schools to independent tutoring. My expertise is working with students with language-based learning differences, as well as dyslexia, executive functioning, auditory processing, dysregulation, and emotional disorders. As a learning specialist, I strive to help students capitalize on their strengths and overcome their challenges to learn in the most effective, successful way.

Upon graduating from Fordham University with a Master's in General and Special Education, I worked in various schools in NYC as an educator, administrator, and learning specialist. As a private tutor and consultant, I continue to work with students, families, and schools to develop and implement learning plans for students with a range of learning needs. I contribute to IEP meetings and consult with neuropsychologists and other educational professionals to understand student strengths and challenges and create programs to help them reach their full potential - their summit. I have a vast knowledge of curriculum, intervention techniques, and assessment methods. I understand the importance of student placement and the need for collaboration between all constituents that make up a child's learning team.

As an Orton-Gillingham Certified Learning Specialist, I support students with dyslexia through an explicit, multisensory approach that provides them with meaningful knowledge about phonology and morphology. When students understand these aspects of language, they are better equipped to overcome reading and writing challenges. I also supervise teachers who are working towards an OG Certification. As a practicum supervisor with IMSE, I strive to work collaboratively so that the teachers I work with can best support their students, and I, in turn, can continue to learn and grow as an educator.

In addition to helping students reach their learning summit (which undoubtedly influences all aspects of their lives), I am an avid reader, hiker, skier, and mom of two amazing children (Noli and Sebastian). My husband, children, and our dog and I currently live in Crested Butte, CO, and I'm excited to bring my expertise and joy of teaching to students in my new community, as well as those students needing to engage remotely.
